Make Cards & Support Our Troops!!

I'm sure many of you as I did today, received an e-mail from the Scrapbook Trends, Cards & Paper Trends group, asking for our support and input to create cards that the men and women serving our country can use to stay in touch with their loved ones during their difficult time away from their loved ones.  Please join me in committing to making at least 3 cards to send to this very good cause.  I'd love to know how many of your will add yourselves to this commitment, so please send us a note and let us know "you're in"!

Kim

Here is the e-mail (copied with permission) that I received:

As we celebrate our country’s freedom, it is natural to think about our service men and women and the sacrifice they make for us. But here is an opportunity to put those feelings into action and do something for them.

Last year, Northridge Media launched “Cards for Troops”, the idea of Tina Gonzales, whose husband, Brad, was serving in Iraq. Brad had expressed the desire to be able to send nice cards back to his family, and Tina knew at once that was something she could do for the soldiers overseas. The project was announced last fall in Scrapbook Trends, Cards and Paper Trends and it wasn’t long before cards were coming into our offices in box loads. Tina says:

“I had captains and officers email me amazing thank yous for the cards, saying how much it meant to get cards to send back home to the families they are missing. The word has spread so much in Iraq that many now watch and wait for the arrival of more cards. Even the post office personnel want to peek inside the boxes to see the fun cards and how creative people get. They can tell how much love goes into them.

This experience has shown me that there are people who are very willing to give of their time and talents. Regardless of their feelings about the war, they want to support our country’s troops. It has touched my heart forever. These cards were made with love for people they don’t even know or will never meet. I would like everyone to know how much it means to get a card on your birthday from your husband in Iraq—it is priceless. The birthday card I received from Brad, along with his message, means more than any present and I’ll keep it always.”

We want to express our sincere appreciation to the wonderful people who supported our troops last year by making cards. Our goal was to send 5,000 cards and we not only met that goal, but exceeded it by sending over 7,000 cards to men and women on active duty. And this was due to our wonderful readers who took the time to create cards. We also had several stores who sponsored card-making days dedicated to Cards for Troops. We have had countless notes of appreciation from service men and women who were very touched by these cards. We have also received many requests for more cards, so we invite you to once again join us in creating cards for our troops. Please send your cards for all occasions (with envelopes) to our new address:

Fort Lauderdale Girls - You're Awesome!

Thanks so much to all the wonderful people we met and old friends we visited with in Fort Lauderdale this past weekend at the Creating Keepsakes Convention.  We had fabulous classes and enjoyed it so much!  We're not sure if the show will be back to that location next year, but if it's not, we're planning on doing something over there (think back to the Beach Bash of years past that Debra Beagle, Kate Childers and friends) put together and we'll just have our own event!  I'm so glad that I got to see Regina who I haven't seen since last year and that Barb, Gerri-anne and Janet made it over for the day.  Thanks again, Lisa for all your help!  Bev & Leeann worked for us, too, and Jacob ran our Dollar Booth while Logan ran the make & takes.  Tim worked the register while I taught and Jordan stayed home at Gee-Gee and Papa's house and went shopping the whole time - wonder who made out the best?????

I'm planning on posting our new upcoming layouts and projects for all classes from now forward for the remainder of 2008.  We're also still going to have a warehouse sale soon, but have a few glitches.  We were going to do our crop in the unit next to our warehouse, but they sold it and that option isn't available.  I'm looking into other options and will keep you posted.  I need to know how many people are interested in cropping from Friday night to Sunday afternoon!!

Here's a look at one of our new Scraptique project based kits - it's an accordion album using KaiserCraft papers with a variety of embellishments and ribbons.  It will be posted and available for purchase by this weekend under our Scraptique section on our website.

Have a great week!

Beach Fun - A Taste of Scraptique

Here's one of the layouts that we've added to the Taste of Scraptique agenda - some of you will get these, but only a few (I'm limited on the kits).  I'm also putting this on our website today for sale, so if anyone is looking for some cute page kits and needs something for summer, this is the one!  I love the way my little guy's beach gear matched with these papers.  I'll try to post more layouts this weekend.

Great American Scrapbook Convention

For those of you who haven't attended a Great American Scrapbook Convention - you need to.  The old adage "Everything's Bigger in Texas" holds true with this show.  This is the biggest scrapbook convention to date and there are people everywhere.  It's a fun atmosphere with lots of southern hospitality and just happy people cropping, scrapbooking and having fun!  It's right next to the Texas Rangers Stadium (which we didn't get to go to, although we wanted to - just too busy working) and next to the brand newly being built Dallas Cowboys (yuk - I still hold grudges against teams that beat us twice in a row in Super Bowls), however, that being said, the stadium does truly look gorgeous.

The event coordinators - Rose Flowers & Sally Slack rock!  They make things run smoothly even when there are lots of glitches (and we had our share this show) to still pull off a fabulous event.  So....if you ever get a chance to attend one of these events in Texas, please do so - you won't be disappointed!

We have lots of new products in stock on our website - check out the new Round-It-All by Zutter - it is a corner rounder that rounds thick chipboard, acrylic and more!  It's a must have!!

Thanks Buffalo Girls!!!

Thanks to all of the wonderful girls that my husband & I met in Buffalo and all of the great friends we've met in the past and got to visit with again (Heidi & her Mom, Bonnie, Janet - and congratulations to Edie for winning one of the CK page contests - you rock!).  Lisa Voto & her husband joined us on Saturday - she's from our Entourage - it was great to meet them in person!!  Thanks to Melanie for all her help setting up and on Friday - we so much appreciated it!!

We are offering our football album as a kit on our website.  It's under our Scraptique kits.  Of course, the one that is pictured showcases the Buffalo Bills game that we went to, because I would refuse to scrapbook about any other team EVER, but we can customize yours to suit your needs.  We had some girls using them for high school & college teams - the possibilities are endless.  The album is a good size - 9" long by about 6" high.  I've attached a photo of mine.

Congratulations to our contest winner, Jan Majors from Lancaster, NY - you are the winner of our $50 drawing for lots of scrapbooking goodies.  We will be sending a box to you this week, so watch for it in your mail by the end of the week - enjoy!!
